Baking Time and Temperature
-
Baking Time: For a chewy texture, bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes. For a crispier texture, extend the baking time to 12-14 minutes.
-
Baking Temperature: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) for optimal results.
Baking Instructions
-
Thaw the Dough: Partially thaw the frozen cookie dough for 15-20 minutes at room temperature. This will make it easier to scoop and shape.
-
Prepare the Baking Sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to prevent sticking.
-
Scoop and Shape: Use a cookie scoop or two spoons to form 12-15 evenly sized balls of dough. Place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
-
Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for the recommended time, rotating the sheet halfway through to ensure even baking.
-
Cool: Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Tips for Perfect Cookies
-
Use a Digital Thermometer: Ensure accurate oven temperature by using a digital thermometer to calibrate your oven.
-
Don’t Overmix the Dough: Overmixing can result in tough cookies. Mix the dough just until the ingredients are combined.
-
Chill the Dough: For a chewier texture, chill the shaped cookie dough balls in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before baking.
-
Add Toppings: Before baking, sprinkle the cookies with additional chocolate chips, nuts, or sea salt for extra flavor and texture.
Troubleshooting
-
Cookies are too Brown: Reduce the baking time or temperature.
-
Cookies are too Soft: Increase the baking time or temperature.
-
Cookies are Flat: Ensure the dough is chilled before baking, and do not overmix the dough.

Are you guys as obsessed with Costco as I am? I was immediately enthralled with their employment policies and even more so when they revealed their sustainability practices. I was sold at 0%. But as their fair trade, organic, and vegan offerings have grown, our relationship has become much more serious recently. In the last few months, my list of must-haves from Costco’s organic section has grown by double. Tofu, quinoa, bulgar, brown rice, chia seeds, strawberries, blueberries, kale, arugula, half-and-half, milk, eggs, you name it. Fantastic, incredibly healthful stuff! Regretfully (at least for my waist size), one of their fair trade product options is a 3 5lb bag of chocolate chips. How exactly am I expected to say no to that?.
As far as I’m aware, it is a rule that every bag of chocolate chips must have a recipe for chocolate chip cookies on the back. Costco’s features an “old fashioned” recipe, which I think might be code for “no holds barred – full fat, full sugar, fully awesome”? Something like that. These were darn good, but I only kept two in the house – the rest headed off to work to save me from myself. I think my only complaint is that they’re so tasty that I found myself rationalizing setting the oven to 375 in this heatwave!
Update 10/22/14: I haven’t made these cookies as frequently as I used to because I usually try new recipes for blog fodder. However, I just made them again the other day after a reader pointed out a possible issue with the recipe. The cookies turned out really well when I made them according to this recipe. My only hypothesis is that the Kirkland recipe frequently uses the word “thoroughly,” which could cause the dough to be overmixed. Mix your dough until everything is well combined, but don’t overmix; once the dough appears uniform in color, you don’t need to keep mixing. HTH! – Leesha.
