Following word of mouth to multiple eateries, Anderson and Fey were invited to participate in executive takeovers as guests. At this point, they were both working in advertising, and they used their astute business acumen to sell the restaurants two or three seatings. The popularity of these events made Anderson and Fey realize they ought to take action with this growing side venture. When they first thought about starting their own restaurant, Anderson’s father talked them out of doing such a dangerous venture. “The fortunate ones don’t last long,” Anderson recalled his father telling them.

Soon, though, cooking became a vital part of their friendship.
