With the cost of living rising, families are unlikely to have much cash to splash around on takeaways.
But when you still want a night off cooking, supermarket pizzas offer another, much cheaper, option.
Thats why weve been comparing the pizza counters at Morrisons, Sainsburys and Asda to see which one comes out on top.
We bought a medium (10 inch) and two large (14 inch) pizzas from each retailer and judged them on price and taste – and there was one clear winner.
All three have the option to choose either thin and crispy or deep pan, but there are extra choices at Morrisons, where you can opt for sourdough or gluten free, and Asda, where you can get woodfired, stuffed crust or Detroit – you pay extra for those though.
And they all offer a choice of either tomato or BBQ sauce, with Asda and Morrisons offering garlic as a third choice.
When it comes to those all-important toppings, they all have a decent range to choose from, but Asda has the most at 19, Morrisons 18 and Sainsburys 12.
But while you can choose any four toppings within the standard price at the first two, at Sainsburys you can only pick three.
It didnt affect us, as for our comparison we went for a large cheese and tomato, a large pepperoni and for the medium, we were actually taking off the cheese (for one fussy eater) – while adding either chicken or meatballs (Asda being the only place to offer these) or chicken and ham.
Unfortunately at Sainsburys we couldnt get them made up at all, as the counter doesnt open until noon and there was no way the man working behind the counter was going to make an exception.
In true Blue Peter fashion they had some pre-prepared ones already on display so we opted for those instead.
Price wise for all three pizzas, Morrisons came out on top at £10.67, followed by Asda at £11.60 and Sainsburys at £12.
Popularity wise however, the order was reversed, with Morrisons a clear winner among the four of us, even Miss Fussy.
While the base was slightly thicker than youd expect with a thin crust, it cooked perfectly and the sauce, cheese and overall taste made it the closest to a real deal takeaway youd get delivered to your door.
If you do fancy trying one for yourselves, there are some deals running at the moment too.
Morrisons has two 10 inch pizzas and a litre bottle of Diet Coke or Coke Zero for £4.99.
Asdas Bigger Movie Nights Meal Deal offers the same for £6, but you also get either a Vue cinema ticket or a Sky Store movie voucher included.
Opening times – Monday to Saturday 12pm to 8pm, Sunday 10am to 4pm, but there are often freshly made pizzas on display outside of these times.
The pizza counter Our thin and crispy pizza bases are stonebaked for an authentic taste and are all assembled instore. Choose four toppings, like gooey mozzarella or spicy meat, and have your own pizza made and cooked to order.

3 course lunch or dinner with side dish and a cocktail – £65 for two (currently 45% off)
Heading up the autowalk into the spacious belly of the store, I reminded myself it could be perceived as creepy to lick my lips in public. My tongue was kept at bay as I manoeuvred deftly through the aisles to the rear of the store. The smell of warming dough announced itself first, followed by a neat set of counters containing glowing chickens and pale, plastic-wrapped, fridge-ready discs splattered with colourful toppings.
The cheese wasnt as browned and crisped as I like (read: very) but its thick globules were tempting in that way thats exclusive to cheeky takeaway pizzas. I momentarily wished Id gone deep dish, likely more akin to Dominos pillowy classic base. This one, though, felt fancier and less likely to make me feel sick and regretful afterwards: flat, thin and crisp with crunchy edges like an Italian flatbread, or the kind of pizza youd get in a upmarket restaurant. To my relief, the toppings were generous apportioned and evenly scattered.
Japanese inspired afternoon tea – £69 for two including a glass of fizz
A few short minutes later, I was flashing my receipt in exchange for a traditional brown cardboard box, emblazoned subtly with Sainsburys on its slim sides. The pizzas creator flashed me a smile as I peeked inside before speeding back towards the exit, possibly musing that hed see me again soon for future pies. At least, that scenario was looking increasingly likely as I traversed back through the aisles and down the travelator, stealing another peek at my meat-loaded dinner at its foot.
