This is the Ultimate Christmas Crack recipe! Yes, there are many variations of this classic saltines recipe, but I love the combination of two different types of chocolate chips AND then sprinkled with sea salt. That salt is a TOTAL game changer, I’m telling you! “Crack” into smaller pieces and enjoy! It’s the perfect treat to include on a holiday cookie plate with Peanut Butter Balls and Fantasy Fudge.
If your saltine toffee, or Christmas crack, is chewy, it’s because the chocolate hasn’t fully set yet. Try popping it in the fridge for 15 minutes to firm it up. Do not store it in the fridge for any longer than 15 minutes, however.
Add the Chocolate
Top the hot crackers with chocolate chips. Place back into the warm oven to melt chocolate chips for a minute or two.
Remove from the oven and spread melted chocolate to cover all the crackers evenly. (This should spread very easily since the chocolate chips should be completely melted through.)
Sprinkle the top with Maldon Sea Salt (or any desired toppings) and cool to room temperature. Transfer to refrigerator until completely solid. This should take 1-2 hours.
Remove from the fridge and peel Christmas Crack from the foil. It might not come off in one piece, but that’s ok! It should come off relatively easy.

What is the cause of cracked corners of the mouth?
Doctors call it angular cheilitis. It’s also known as angular stomatitis or perlèche. The cause is frequent or persistent saliva touching the skin outside the mouth. You’re more likely to develop this condition if you have a poor seal of the lips at the angles of the mouth, wear braces, have ill-fitting dentures, or frequently lick your lips. Less commonly, angular cheilitis can also be from an allergic skin reaction to lipstick or face cream, or flossing your teeth too vigorously.

If you don’t have any chocolate chips on hand, you can chop up a bar of chocolate, and that works just as well! Experiment with flavored chocolates to make your Christmas crack recipe your own!
