This is a simple tutorial to show my technique for cutting watermelon. Learn the easiest way to slice watermelon whether its with rind or without the rind!
Follow my directions to learn the easiest way to cut up a watermelon. Is any summer fruit more popular or more refreshing? No matter the size (color or shape) let me show you how to slice it up efficiently.
Watermelon’s relatively high sugar content gives it an undeserved bad rap. One serving has the same sugar content as an apple, gives you 25 percent of a day’s vitamin C, 30 percent of vitamin A, plus the antioxidant lycopene.
Slice it in half lengthwise… …and then slice each half crosswise into 1-inch wedges. Repeat with the remaining watermelon. For the best texture and flavor, I recommend slicing the watermelon wedges right before you eat them, as they lose more juice the longer they sit.

Watermelon without the rind
Start by removing a half inch off the top and bottom of the watermelon.
Stand the watermelon on one of the cut sides. Using a sharp knife, starting from the top and following the contour of the watermelon, carefully slice the skin off. Your cut will be about one-half inch in depth.
Continue to peel the watermelon, taking off two to three-inch-wide pieces of the rind following the white inner peel color. Be sure to cut deep enough to see only the flesh.
Cut the watermelon in half vertically. Then, cut each half in half again to give you four manageable quarters.
Then you can proceed to cut into desired shapes and sizes.
For large triangle cuts, lay the quartered watermelon on one of flat sides. Then, cut down vertically.
To cut watermelon into cubes, lay the quartered watermelon cut side down and cut into triangles. Then, make perpendicular cuts lengthwise. Rotate the stack to the other original cut side and make more perpendicular cuts to create a grid pattern of watermelon cubes.
These cubes are perfect for a fruit bowl or watermelon feta salad!

How to cut a watermelon in half?
Step 1: Slice in half through the middle, then cut into slices. First, slice the watermelon in half through the middle with a large Chef’s knife (don’t cut it lengthwise). Flip it over onto the flat base, then cut it into slices. How to cut a watermelon into triangles? Simply cut the large slices into wedges. You’re done!
What is the best time to eat watermelon?
Because it is rich in water, watermelon is not very suitable to be consumed at night. Intake of liquids at night can cause nocturia, that is, frequent trips to the bathroom in the early morning, which can compromise the health of sleep.
How do you slice a watermelon?
Place the watermelon on one flat side. Slice away the rind in strips to reveal the red flesh (or yellow or orange flesh), following the curve of the fruit and rotating as you go. Pare off any remaining white bits. (You may want to flip the fruit top to bottom to come at it from a second angle.) Slice the fruit top to bottom into large planks.
How do you cut a watermelon with a knife?
Place your knife anywhere on the border between the red and white. Slice downward to remove a wide strip of watermelon rind. Repeat this process, working your way around the perimeter of the watermelon, until no rind remains. Then, cube the watermelon.
