“With a menu full of variety, and an item for every craving, we still find that one of the most talked-about products on our social media platforms is our buttermilk ranch,” said Sheena Dougher, Jack in the Box’s director of marketing communications, in response to e-mailed questions. “Every month, Jack in the Box receives over 200 comments on our social channels from fans talking about their love for our buttermilk ranch.”
As a reward for that devotion, the company is erecting special vending machines at various locations throughout the Los Angeles area. The machines will reward loyal customers with free ranch-dressing dip cups and other prizes.
“We have always supported our consumers’ love of ranch through social media, but this year, we wanted to do something even more engaging to surprise our ultimate ranch fans,” Dougher said.
The brand opted to put the machines in Los Angeles after asking social media followers to weigh in on possible locations. Other contending markets included Las Vegas, Houston and San Francisco. Jack in the Box will leverage its social channels to promote the event online, giving fans a chance to interact with the machines virtually, Dougher said.
Jack in the Box is in the midst of a business turnaround, having posted same-store sales gains of 12.5% for the first quarter of FY 21 (on top of a 12.2% same-store sales increase for the fourth quarter of the previous year). In December, the brand launched its entry into the chicken sandwich wars, and the company recently named Ryan Ostrom its new chief marketing officer. Adrienne Ingoldt, who previously oversaw marketing as the company’s chief brand and experience officer, was named chief customer and strategy officer, a new position.
