what is the base of liquid soap

This is our undiluted Castile Liquid Soap paste for making your own natural liquid soaps. This soap is NOT a finished product, but rather a soap base which needs to be worked with.

This Castile Undiluted Liquid Soap Base paste is NOT a finished product, but rather a concentrated base which you can transform into a liquid castile shower gel. By purchasing paste over our pre-diluted version, you not only save on shipping fees, but you can also customize your finished product to a texture that will suit your needs.

To make 1 gallon of thick shower gel, you will need approximately 1 to 2 pounds of paste. The more paste you add, the more lather your finished soap will produce.

The 5 pound size will make well over 5 gallons of soap, making this pack size very economical and cost effective.

The process for working with Castile Undiluted Liquid Soap Base is simple: add distilled water and an optional thickening agent (neither are included with this item). A detailed instruction sheet on how to properly dilute our soap base is sent with each order. Once finished, you will have a product similar to our house-made Castile Extra Thick Liquid Soap Base.

Please note, the soap will be thin like water which works great in hand pumps or foaming bottles. Or consider purchasing a thickening agent to give a “shower gel” consistency to your finished product. Here is a list of thickeners that work with our soap paste:

Ingredients: * Olea europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, * Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, ^ potassium hydroxide, filtered water.

(^) During the soap making process the potassium hydroxide bonds to the oils to make soap and is an ingredient that is no longer found in the finished product. Please do not ask us to remove this ingredient, it is not possible. Without this ingredient, you cannot make this type of liquid soap.

If you are familiar with making soap from scratch, you probably know that solid soap is made with sodium hydroxide and that liquid soap is made with potassium hydroxide (KOH). Potassium hydroxide is similar to sodium hydroxide, but makes soft soap, which combined with water, makes liquid soap.

FAQ

What is liquid soap made of?

It’s essentially made by mixing a fat or oil with an alkali substance known as lye. This triggers a molecular reaction called saponification. In bar soapmaking, the lye used is sodium hydroxide, and in liquid soap, it’s usually potassium hydroxide – this makes the end product more water-soluble.

What is the base ingredient of soap?

Soap, by definition, is fat or oil mixed with an alkali. The oil comes from an animal or plant, while the alkali is a chemical called lye. In bar soap-making, the lye is sodium hydroxide. Liquid soap requires potassium hydroxide.

What is the base in soap?

Caustic soda(sodium hydroxide) is used in the manufacture of soap.

Why is liquid soap a base?

Soap is a combination of a weak acid (fatty acids) and a strong base (lye), which results in what is known as “alkalai salt,” or a salt that is basic on the pH scale. (See scale below) Sure enough, if you use a pH strip (also known as a litmus test) in soapy water, it often scores an 8 or 9.

What is a liquid soap base?

Our liquid soap bases are made from premium blends of saponified oils of sunflower, coconut, and rosemary extract and have excellent cleaning and moisturizing properties. They also contain retained glycerin and are perfect for skin care. Our liquid soap bases are easy to work with and make natural soap according to your unique recipes.

What soaps are recommended for babies with sensitive skin?

Babies with sensitive skin require gentle products that will not irritate their delicate skin. Research recommends using mild, fragrance-free, and hypoallergenic soaps specifically designed for babies with sensitive skin. It’s important to avoid products that contain harsh chemicals, including dyes, fragrances, and preservatives, which can cause dryness, itching, and irritation.

What is liquid soap?

Liquid soap is a type of cleanser that uses water as its base and typically contains surfactants and other detergents. It has a more fluid consistency than bar soap, making it easier to use on the skin and in various cleaning tasks.

What are the ingredients in liquid soap?

The base ingredients of liquid soap are water, surfactants, and an alkaline salt or compound. Water is the main component of liquid soap and helps to dilute the other ingredients to form a usable solution. Surfactants are surface-active agents that help to break down dirt, oils, and other materials from the skin.
