When we set out to create our Vegetarian Cincinnati-Style Chili in 2015, our goal was the same as any other item on the menu—to serve our customers only the best. Our Vegetarian Chili is made with a plant-based BEYOND MEAT® product thats gluten-free and guilt-free, but definitely not flavor-free. It’s made with the same secret 13-spice blend as our original chili and looks, smells and tastes just like the original. Where is Gold Star Chili located?
Gold Star Chili is a restaurant chain based in Cincinnati, Ohio, that sells Cincinnati chili. The original restaurant was established in the Cincinnati neighborhood of Mt. Washington in 1965 by four Daoud brothers, immigrants from Jordan. Gold Star Chili was the “Official Chili” of the Cincinnati Bengals until April 19, 2023.
How did Gold Star Chili become famous?
Drawing on this history, he sought the best spice suppliers and tweaked the original recipe until he created a recipe they all agreed was truly unique. It was an instant success, and chili sales quickly doubled. In 1965, the Daoud brothers changed the name of their restaurant to honor their delicious new recipe – Gold Star Chili.

Today, we still make our chili in small batches with the same hand-blended spices from 13 countries, selected at the peak of freshness. The Gold Star recipe is still secretly guarded, and to this day has only been entrusted to THREE people.
