Answer: No, it’s definitely not a good idea to freeze soda. There are a few reasons why freezing soda is not a good idea at all, read on for a proper warning and explanation.
Don’t freeze soda! Soda is mostly water, which freezes at 32°F. More importantly, remember that water (or any liquid for that matter) expands as it freezes. Therefore, the combination of the freezing water along with the pressure from the carbonation within the soda will deform the shape of the thin aluminum casing which surrounds the soda. In fact, the can may get so out of shape that it actually bursts!
A warm soda can be placed into a freezer for a short period just before opening, but just long enough to cool if off. In about 15 or 20 minutes, the can will be cool and should then be removed from the freezer. The problem is remembering that you did this. If you do forget and leave the can in the freezer for a longer period of time – and it has not exploded – then be sure to place it into the refrigerator to completely thaw before attempting to open it.
The same holds true for soda that comes in a plastic or glass bottle instead of a can. To be safe, make it a practice not to freeze soda of any kind.
Some other foods that people sometimes question in regards to freezing include cheese, potatoes, tomatoes and yogurt.

Often the container will rupture or blow off its cap. If that doesn’t happen, the gas is likely to be forced out under the cap, in which case the thawed soda will be noticeably flat. If neither of those happens the CO2 will redissolve in the soda as it thaws, and the soda will still be fizzy when opened.

Can you freeze soda if it’s in a can?
As mentioned above, you can always use the freezer to cool soda if it’s in another container besides the original sealed can or bottle. Of course, a cup filled to the brim with soda/fizzy drink will overflow as the liquid expands, but it won’t explode and cause as much of a mess inside the freezer.
Is soda good for you?
No, soda is one of the most harmful things. It is very rich in sugars and food additives, and does not contain any vitamins or minerals. Even the diet or zero versions are terrible for intestinal health, and are best avoided and only consumed on special occasions.
Should you keep frozen soda in the freezer?
Between a lack of space and the pressurized gas, frozen soda is just a big explosion waiting to happen. The air bubbles in fizzy drinks take some time to expand, so there’s a little wiggle room for those feeling risky enough to roll the dice. Although, keeping an eye on the freezer would be the smart move to avoid a long afternoon of clean-up.
Can you freeze soda water?
So, no you can’t freeze soda water in the can or bottle that it comes in or it will likely explode. However, you can freeze soda water in an i ce cube tray or a cup, but just like soda, it will lose it’s carbonation and end up a bit more of a slushy texture and not a solid ice cube.
