I’m thinking of splashing out on one of these. I am a single mum of two kids and want to cook for all of us. Are the recipes suitable for average fussy 6 and 8 year olds do you think?
You can choose to skip weeks so if theres nothing your kids will like you dont have to get an order that week. Next weeks hello fresh menu has chicken nuggets and mash with peas and sweetcorn as an option, also chicken fried rice and chicken pasta bake in tomato and cheese sauce amongst other things which all seem quite family friendly.
Yeah mine eat Helo Fresh but I choose things that arent too spicy. We get a 3 person box whichs enough for 2 adults and 8 year old twins
Also, I can send you a free box if you want one although I think you might get the first box free anyway when you sign up
guess it depends how fussy your kids are. my kid wont eat any recipe cooked by me!!!
We’ve been using either hello fresh or gousto for years and it’s a hit in our house . I currently have a three year old and a one year old . Neither of my kids are picky eaters ( my oldest is quite adventurous actually and will try anything )so I’ll start off by saying that. My sisters kids wouldn’t dare eat gousto ( or anything that’s not sugar , chicken nuggets or pizza actually ) Currently we do 4 meals a week with gousto and it’s rare for there to be a meal they won’t eat anything from . I avoid spicy ( although a bit of spice is fine with both my kids ) . There is a lot of choice! If I’m worried they won’t like something I’ll serve it along side other food I know they will eat ( with a side of fruit and bread for example ). So far this week we’ve done : a bacon/veggie risotto dish (both kids ate some of it but not a lot ) a chicken/veggie curry dish ( both kids devoured it and had seconds) a plant based burger and chips dish ( both kids devoured it ).
My kids both eat it – one is relatively fussy but likes most of the hello fresh stuff
Is there a way to view the hello fresh options without paying first? I cant seem to on the app and I dont want to pay if we dont like any of the choices

I thought you chose the recipes from a selection and they sent all the ingredients. So in answer to the OPs question, you look at the selection of recipes, with pictures of the food and pick the ones that you/they look of.
Yes, just done a search. Theres a few threads that read very advertorial. Then there was the one where the OP claimed that it was such good value even at full price

Hello fresh meals have a ridiculously high salt content, I won’t feed them to my kids
Gousto yes, hello fresh no! gousto is a lot more family friendly, we have one box of four meals a week and my fussy children 4 &8 always find dishes they enjoy. I pick out the family friendly options such as vegan burgers, pasta dishes . my children really struggled with hello fresh, there was never anything they fancied so we stopped after one box. I found the vegetables not as fresh so it put me off also.
Depends what they like to eat and how fussy they are, it is just a range of relatively standard meals that youre paying a very high premium for them to portion off the ingredients and deliver. You can view a lot of the recipes online and see if they would suit/gauge the kind of things you can expect.
Simply cook probably better. Far more versatile as the little pots last ages and you dont have to slavishly follow the menu set e.g. sub fish for chicken etc.
I got a Gousto box this week and love it, but two of my children are quite fussy and wont eat anything from there. If you get the first box to try then its worth it I think, as the portions only work out at £1.20 each or something like that. But after that Im not convinced I will be saving any money as I still have to cook separately for two of my kids.

Today, we’re super excited to feature a blog post from our amazing resident nutritionist, Rebecca Washa. Not only is Rebecca a huge help here at HelloFresh, but she also has a pretty inspiring story. When her mom passed away from breast cancer 7 years ago, Rebecca decided to change hers and others’ lives by reconnecting with real food. Rebecca’s passion lies in getting people back into the kitchen, as she explains it, “There is a disconnect between real food and cooking – we’ve lost an entire generation of kids who don’t even know how to cook. This is a big problem being shown through our current health and way of eating.” Rebecca, we couldn’t agree more! Now on to today’s topic…Picky eaters!
Bottom line, it is important to remember that as parents, you are in charge of your children’s food education. In fact, children will eat what adults eat, so modeling positive eating behaviors yourself is critical. If you eat well, chances are your children will as well. Lastly, take a look at your family’s schedule: is your busy lifestyle preventing you from eating proper meals? If so, try to make sufficient time in your schedule for healthy eating in order to teach this important skill to your children.
One way to increase the variety of new foods in your child’s diet is to try eating fruits and veggies of all colors of the rainbow. You can make this a fun activity by doing “taste training” with your children. For example, choose one type of food (like citrus) and try many different varieties (i.e. lemon, orange, grapefruit, and lime). Ask children to pick a favorite – it may turn into their new favorite flavor! You can also build variety on top of what kids already like by introducing variations on your children’s favorite food dishes. For example, if they like one type of rice, try others (i.e. white, brown, wild, Arborio, basmati, jasmine, etc…).
If you’re a parent with picky eaters, you are not alone! It can be very frustrating when you are trying to help your child eat a healthy diet and they reject the foods you provide them with. Don’t give up; on average, it takes over a dozen presentations of a new food before a child is willing to just taste the food — and as much as a further dozen tastes before a child will actually eat something new.
If you have a fussy eater, encourage your child gently. Children shouldn’t be forced to eat a new food, but they should be encouraged to simply taste the things that are served. With this in mind, try not to offer new foods unless you yourself are in a relaxed mood so that the experience is pleasant for both of you. It also helps to make sure there is always at least one thing on the table your child likes.
