Is it the same thing? They are always knocking back egg nog in Amercan films and I assumed it was an American thing.
Ive never seen it on sale here. Advocaat is not the same thing. Its a fresh dairy product and in north America you find cartons of it in the chiller cabinets in the supermarket. You can make it from scratch from memory you need a lot of eggs and it requires lots of whipping
Never seen it on sale here. The only person I know who has it makes it from fresh.
You can’t buy it here routinely, believe me I have tried. I found it in a random corner shop in Tottenham last August.. However it’s not too tricky to make. But you can also buy egg nog flavouring on Amazon which may work for the purposes of a cheesecake.
American food shops and amazon do it. There are a couple of brands “rose hall” or borden” in uht/tetra packs. Never as nice as fresh & about £10+/ litre
This may serve your purpose: www.amazon.co.uk/Rose-Hall-Luxurious-Eggnog-1L/dp/B09MFN7YLN/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?crid=1U6GPTD00TJVA&%3Bkeywords=egg nog&%3Bqid=1671467674&%3Bsprefix=egg nog %2Caps%2C134&%3Bsr=8-1&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21 Hopefully the link works. Not like proper egg nog which is fresh, but may work in a cake.
www.vitamix.com/us/en_us/recipes/eggnog I used this recipe to make my own a couple of years ago
I’m American and I’ve never seen it for sale here. It’s relatively easy to make though, and I’m sure you could make a cheesecake with the same spices (usually cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg).
I thought it was a Christmasy spiced custard? With alcohol? It has always looked like something Id like to drink anyway.
My lazy recipe is to buy a pot of fresh custard (like the Sainsurys taste the difference custard) and shake 1 part brandy to 2 parts (chilled) custard). Top with whipped cream and grated nutmeg or cinnamon. I have no idea whether it tastes like the real thing but it works for me.
Some shops do stock it, especially ones with “American” sections, seen it in my local shop!
