When reading through many American recipes that use potatoes you come across something like “use 3 large Russet potatoes” which is easy enough when one is in America, since the size of the potato is fairly standard and Russets are common. But what about in Europe or in my case, Russia?
Of course, now comes the other issue, How to determine the starch content of a potato?
As part of a Youtube project I am trying to start – I ended wondering exactly how much does a large potato weigh? Or a medium potato? Or even how much does a medium onion weigh?
In Russia, Russet potatoes are hard, if not impossible, to find and the size of the potato can vary, but is generally much smaller than what I was used to growing up in America. So my recipes never seem to turn out the same. Finally, I googled it and this is what I came up with:
