Okay, so you know how to clean windows, but do you know how to clean windows with Bar Keepers Friend? And, today’s post isn’t only about cleaning windows it’s also about how to clean blinds, sills, tracks.
Clean windows are important to me. I worked in home remodeling for more than twenty years. I’m a huge fan of tilt-in windows. The first three homes I owned didn’t have tilt-in windows. They had wood double-hung interior windows with aluminum storm windows. They were difficult to clean. I had tilt-in windows installed in my current home. No. More. Ladders.
So anyway, my windows are easy to get to, but they still get dirty. That’s where BKF comes in.
Do you know those water spots that accumulate on the outside pane of glass? The ones that make it difficult to see out. Yea, those. BKF to the rescue!
You probably already know that Bar Keepers Friend is great on shower glass, but what you may not know, is that it is also great on general window glass. Before Cleaning: TEST FIRST!
Cleaning Window Sills and Sliding Patio Door Tracks
Window and sliding door tracks attract dirt, grime, bugs, and more. Especially the patio door. It seems like people track things into the track! I use BKF MORE Spray + Foam cleaner to clean away the grime of time that builds up on tracks. If it goes too long it can even interfere with the operation of the window or door.
I’ve tried cleaners that were more Pray and Foam than Spray and Foam. You prayed they would work, which usually meant they didn’t.
BKF Spray and Foam is a citric acid cleaner – tough on stains, and it has two options. For lighter cleaning, set the bottle to spray and move it to the foam setting for more challenging jobs. Either way, you don’t have to pray it will work. It works.
How to Use BKF to Clean Your Window Glass
- Make a paste of Bar Keepers Friend Powdered Cleanser and water. Note: Be stingy with the BKF powder. A little dab will do
- Rub it on the glass and then let it sit for five minutes
- After five minutes, wipe away the paste with a soft wet cloth or paper towel
- Shine it clean with a dry rag. I like to use old newspaper. If you’re like me and still subscribe to the Indianapolis Sunday Star, before you put it in the recycle bin save some for glass cleaning
