can you put iron on on fleece

Here we are on Day 11 of my 12 Days of Cricut Christmas Crafting. Today we’re going to talk about putting HTV on fleece. I get asked this question a lot – can you put heat transfer vinyl or HTV on fleece?

One of the biggest concerns is that fleece is typically made out of polyester and so one would worry that the high heat would melt or destroy the fleece.

Yes, you can iron patches onto fleece, but it’s imperative to set the iron to its lowest setting. Under extremely high temperatures, fleece can quickly begin to shrink, discolor, or even melt.

What Type of HTV Works best?

To add a nice extra touch to fleece throws, it’s nice to be able to put HTV on them. For me, personally, since the fleece is so nice and soft, I prefer to use flock HTV. Flocked HTV is fuzzy HTV and so it has a similar feel to it. I thought it would be nicer than the plasticky feeling that HTV can sometimes have. This way, when curled up on the sofa watching Christmas movies, the flock HTV blends with the fleece. You may recall I also used flock HTV for stuffed animals. You can read all about how to use flock HTV in this blog post here.

How to Apply HTV on Stuffed Animals

Flock HTV requires a higher temperature for application. My heat press is set to 160 degrees. Even at that higher temperature, the fleece did not melt or break down. Don’t forget that flock HTV is a cold peel – so resist the urge to pull that carrier sheet off right away.
