Finding the perfect microwave for your kitchen can be a daunting task, especially if you’re left-handed. Most microwaves on the market open from the right, which can be awkward and inconvenient for those who prefer to use their left hand. But fear not, left-handed chefs, there are still options available for you!
Are There Right-Hinged Microwaves?
While the vast majority of microwaves open from the right, there are a few models that feature left-hinged doors. These models are typically more difficult to find, but they do exist. Some popular brands that offer left-hinged microwaves include:
- Frigidaire: The Frigidaire Gallery 30-inch Over-the-Range Microwave (Model #GMOS1968AF) is a great option for left-handed users. It features a spacious 1.9 cubic foot capacity, 1000 watts of cooking power, and a convenient left-hinged door.
- Sharp: The Sharp 20.4-inch Countertop Microwave (Model #ZSMC1464HS) is a compact and affordable option for those who don’t need a lot of space. It features a 1.4 cubic foot capacity, 1100 watts of cooking power, and a left-hinged door.
- Avanti: The Avanti 23.9-inch Over-the-Range Microwave (Model #MOTR14K3S-IS) is a stylish and powerful option for left-handed users. It features a 1.4 cubic foot capacity, 1000 watts of cooking power, and a sleek stainless steel finish.
Alternatives to Left-Hinged Microwaves
If you can’t find a left-hinged microwave that meets your needs, there are a few other options to consider:
- Pull-out microwaves: These microwaves are installed under the counter and pull out like a drawer. This can be a good option for left-handed users, as it allows you to access the microwave from the front.
- Countertop microwaves: Countertop microwaves can be placed anywhere on your counter, which gives you more flexibility in terms of placement. This can be helpful if you’re left-handed, as you can position the microwave so that the door opens towards you.
- Microwave drawers: Microwave drawers are similar to pull-out microwaves, but they are installed in a drawer space under the counter. This can be a good option for left-handed users who have limited counter space.
Things to Consider When Choosing a Microwave for a Left-Handed User
When choosing a microwave for a left-handed user, there are a few things to keep in mind:
- Door swing: Make sure the microwave door opens from the left.
- Control panel location: The control panel should be located on the left side of the microwave so that it’s easy to access with your left hand.
- Size and capacity: Choose a microwave that is the right size for your needs and has enough capacity to accommodate your favorite dishes.
- Features: Consider the features that are important to you, such as power level, cooking presets, and defrosting options.
While finding a left-hinged microwave can be a challenge, there are still options available for left-handed chefs. By considering the factors listed above, you can find a microwave that is both functional and convenient for your needs.
We have been searching for some time for a booth of the sort you see in diners and restaurants. It does not have to be authentic 50s style, but we would like two bench seats with a fixed table between them. Do you know of a place in the north-west where such furniture might be sent for recycling or selling on after outlets are refurbished? Weve tried the local secondhand shops and Googled with no luck. Weve found a couple of stores specialising in authentic diner furniture, both of which will deliver to your door. Lawton Imports has a very cool Hollywood booth set in seven different 50s colours for around £1,400, while wotever.co.uk sells a two-seat booth set, also known as Hollywood, for £1,315. On the secondhand front, Luna, a vintage furniture store based in Nottingham, offers a search service or try your luck on eBay – there were 13 for sale on the day we looked. Is there a right-handed opening microwave on the market or are they all left-handed? Unfortunately, our searches have drawn a blank, but we have found a couple that open at the top – the Panasonic NNCF778S combination microwave/oven/grill, £234.98, from Electrical Discount UK, and the Panasonic NN-CF778SBPQ combination microwave in stainless steel, £299, from John Lewis.
I am fairly short, so hinges on the bottom, while probably better than what we have, would still be a little awkward. Has anyone seen or recommended a microwave that opens from either hinges on the right or the top?
I’m trying to avoid buying a built-in microwave because of the installation costs (I’m not very handy when it comes to DIY projects).
Budget is fairly reasonable because, well, I’m willing to pay a little bit more because it’s driving me crazy. Prefer under $900.
Hello there. We moved into a house last year that I adore, but there’s one thing that’s driving me crazy. Since the microwave nook is in the corner, using a standard microwave with its hinges on the left side is extremely difficult and possibly dangerous.
