Some users on TikTok are posting vides of themselves eating frozen Fruit Roll-Ups. Those people appear to be eating them straight out of the freezer with only the outer wrapper removed.
But, that would mean they are eating them along with the inner, opaque wrapper on the fruit snack.
Fruit Roll-Ups this week posted a video on TikTok showing a woman doing just that. The brand followed with another video – using the same flavor of Fruit Roll-Up and a woman biting into it after removing it from the freezer. The biting action causes the inside wrapper to separate from the fruit snack and make it visible – an action you don’t see in other TikTok videos.
“Legal is making me clarify that you should not attempt to eat plastic,” Fruit Roll-Ups posted.
According to NBC News, one TikTok user @KitchenTool “admitted that they had intentionally misled their viewers into believing the product did not come with plastic.”
After posting a video of himself eating the frozen Fruit Roll-Up – supposedly without removing the inner plastic wrap – he followed up with a video saying, “Alright, alright. Fine. There’s of course plastic in every, single Fruit Roll-Up, guys. You think I’m just eating plastic around here? No, of course I’m not.”
@KitchenTool explained his process – he “carefully” opens each Fruit Roll-Up before freezing to keep the outer package intact. He then peels off the inner plastic on the snack, rerolls it and puts it back in the outer packaging.
Then (does this sound safe?) uses an iron to re-seal the edges on the outer packaging before putting the Fruit Roll-Up into the freezer.
@KitchenTool said it “was supposed to be an April Fools joke but someone else gave it away before I could keep it secret that long.”
General Mills’ official media statement on the matter reiterates that all Fruit Roll-Ups include a plastic wrap that is not edible. “While consumers can enjoy Fruit Roll-Ups in many fun ways, including frozen, they should always remove the plastic wrap before freezing or consuming the product,” the statement says.

In Fruit Roll-Ups video, a woman is seen removing a Fruit Roll-Up from the freezer and unwrapping it. As she bites in, the plastic lining becomes visible as it separated slightly from the food.
Some users have speculated that those who claim their Fruit Roll-Ups dont have the plastic lining are trolling their viewers. Others, like user @KitchenTool, who initially perpetuated the “no plastic” myth, admitted that they had intentionally misled their viewers into believing the product did not come with plastic.
In the caption, Fruit Roll-Ups wrote: “legal is making me clarify that you should not attempt to eat plastic.”
In a follow-up video posted on Tuesday, @KitchenTool admitted he was manipulating the product to make it seem like it came without plastic.
@KitchenTool did not immediately respond to a request for comment. However, he added that he does hope Fruit Roll-Up will release a plastic-free freezer-ready version of the snack.
