Hi! My name is Arne. Having spent years working as a barista Im now on a mission to bring more good coffee to the people. To that end, my team and I provide you with a broad knowledge base on the subject of coffee.
Ever wonder what it would be like to not ever wash another coffee carafe again? In today’s Cuisinart DCC3000 review, I’m going to go over the nifty features this drip coffee maker has to offer. And that includes a carafe free design, thanks to an internal coffee reservoir!
Ever wonder what it would be like to not ever wash another coffee carafe again? In today’s Cuisinart DCC3000 review, I’m going to go over the nifty features this drip coffee maker has to offer. And that includes a carafe free design, thanks to an internal coffee reservoir!
How does that work, you ask? Instead of pouring up a fresh cup in the morning, like most of the machines in my best coffee maker guide, the Cuisinart On Demand DCC 3000 allows you to dispense your drink right into your favorite coffee cup. And all it takes is the push of a lever.
Use a glass measuring cup: If the coffee maker has a cone-shaped filter basket, a glass measuring cup with a pour spout can be used as a makeshift carafe.
Cuisinart On Demand DCC 3000 Features
As I said above, the DCC 3000 has several super convenient features. For example, its programmability, a smaller quantity brewing option and an adjustable auto off function. Let’s continue this Cuisinart DCC3000 review by digging in to see what’s on offer.
First off, I want to mention the size of this machine. It’s taller than it is deep, and access to the filter basket and coffee reservoir is from the top. Opening the lid can be a bit of a pain if you have it tucked under your cabinets. Otherwise, it’s a pretty standard size.
Also, if you’re worried about the DCC 3000’s footprint, you can use a sheet of copy paper to size up the area where you want to put it. The machine is only slightly larger than the paper – I’d say about 0.5 inches (1.3 centimeters) around the edges.
Next, let’s talk about the user interface. Cuisinart chose a neat and tidy combination of buttons and a digital display to make it easy to access your cup of joe in the morning.
Turn the function knob to choose the mode you need, and then use the buttons to adjust everything to your liking. There’s a button to decrease the brew volume if you don’t feel like making a full pot, and the Clean button will indicate when it’s time to descale.
Continuing on in my Cuisinart DCC3000 review, we have a plethora of programmable features to cover. For now, though, I’m going to take a look at the pre program function and how it works.
To use the program function you’ll need to set the clock beforehand. It’s as simple as turning the function knob to Clock and adjusting with the hour and minute buttons.
Once that’s done, you can schedule a brew cycle on the DCC 3000 by turning the function knob to Program. Choose your start time using the hour and minute buttons, then switch the function knob to Auto On.
Then you can turn off the machine with the On/Off button, and your coffee will be ready for you first thing in the morning.
Of course, don’t forget to open the lid and put coffee in the filter before going to bed. Otherwise, you’ll have plenty of hot water ready for tea instead of a delicious fresh brewed coffee.
If that does happen to you, I hope you wouldn’t anger the coffee gods by making instant coffee. Fresh is always better, in my opinion.
So let’s say I do remember to add the ground coffee and my piping hot cup of java is waiting for me inside the coffee reservoir. The neat thing here is I can dispense coffee one cup at a time by simply pressing down on the actuator.
It even has a fancy dispenser light so you can see the coffee dispenser in action. Coffee on demand has never been this easy!
Next up, I have to talk about this coffee gauge. I really didn’t want to be negative in this Cuisinart DCC3000 review, but I’m a bit disappointed with the gauge. While I like how it looks on the machine and I think the idea is fun, it really doesn’t seem to be accurate.
Sure, when the coffee container is full it’s fine. But it seems like when the gauge gets to the halfway mark, there’s really only about a cup or so left. And according to some of the reviews on Amazon, several other customers have noticed the same problem.
Nevertheless, it does give you an idea of when you should start prepping in case you’d like to brew another batch. Since you can’t really tell how much coffee is left in the reservoir by looking down inside, the gauge is still helpful in its own way.
Next on the list is the water reservoir. I’ve always been a fan of a good removable water reservoir; it makes filling and cleaning super easy.
The water tank on this Cuisinart coffee machine is marked with level indicators, so you can easily see how many cups of water are inside.
As I already mentioned, removing the reservoir could be a slight hassle if you have overhead cabinets above your coffee maker. Still, it’s not like moving this machine around is going to take serious exertion!
Another great feature I want to mention in this Cuisinart DCC3000 review is the shower head. Unlike some of the other drip coffee makers I’ve reviewed in the past, the Cuisinart DCC 3000 disperses water over the grounds through several small holes, as opposed to a single entry point.
This allows the coffee grounds to become more evenly saturated, which in turn creates a much better quality, full-bodied and tasty coffee. Way to go Cuisinart!
In addition to the removable water reservoir, I love that there’s a permanent coffee filter included with this Cuisinart coffee machine. Not only does it make for less trash piling up in our environment, it saves money, too.
Plus, you’ll never have to worry about forgetting to buy coffee filters at the market!
With that said, I know some of you don’t care for the sediment you’ll get when using a permanent filter. Fortunately, you can use #4 paper filters with the Cuisinart DCC 3000 for a cleaner extraction. Just don’t forget to compost them when you’re done!
Next, let’s chat about cup size. Your standard cup and mug will fit nicely under the dispensing system; that goes without saying.
Of course, no good coffee maker is complete without a removable drip tray. With the drip tray out, you can fit some of the smaller to medium sized travel mugs. And you know what that means: coffee on demand and on the go!
Additionally, the Cuisinart DCC 3000 comes with a charcoal water filter. It sits inside the water reservoir to clean up any debris or bad tastes that might affect your perfect cup of coffee.
If you choose not to use the charcoal water filter provided, I recommend using filtered water to guarantee a great tasting coffee. Personally, I always have a full Brita water pitcher handy for making coffee.
Also important to note is that the Cuisinart DCC 3000 is BPA free. Since the majority of the machine isn’t made of stainless steel, it’s good to know there’s no BPA in the plastic parts. I guess that’s one less thing to keep you awake at night!
Another awesome thing that I want to make sure to mention in this Cuisinart DCC3000 review is the warranty. This particular machine boasts a three year limited warranty, which is better than a lot of the other machines in its price range.
Anyway, if your Cusisnart coffee maker turns out to be defective, you can call the manufacturer’s toll free number and they’ll take care of the issue lickety split!
Cuisinart On Demand DCC 3000 Cleaning
Since we’ve covered how to brew, the next (and probably most important) section in this Cuisinart DCC3000 review is how to clean it after use. Don’t worry, though – cleaning and descaling this coffee maker is a piece of cake.
The good news is the removable coffee reservoir, permanent filter, brew basket, drip tray and the water reservoir can all be removed for washing.
Some parts, like the brew basket, are top rack dishwasher safe. But as I’ve mentioned before in most of my reviews, I recommend hand washing with mild soap instead of using the dishwasher.
In terms of descaling, maintenance couldn’t be easier. Once you notice the Clean button flashing, it’s time to get rid of that calcium buildup. Use a solution of white vinegar and water or a good citric acid descaler and follow the instructions in the user manual. The self clean function will take care of everything, and your machine and taste buds will thank you!
