This past Tuesday, I had a remote from the Subway in Owensboro. I arrived early for my broadcast and decided to order some lunch. I ordered my Italian BMT on Honey Oat, my sub of choice for almost 15 years because change is scary. Upon the words “Honey Oat” leaving my lips, I was informed that “We dont have Honey Oat.” Excuse me? You dont have Honey Oat? Oh, they mustve meant they didnt have any ready. No big deal, I could wait. When I conveyed my willingness to wait for them to pop some Honey Oat bread out of the oven, the sandwich artist™ informed me that it was discontinued. As in gone forever. Im not saying Im not OK with this, but this song was inspired by how I felt hearing this news.
I couldnt believe what I was hearing. Subway was done carrying the greatest bread known to man? I looked around the restaurant, looking for any sign of Honey Oats existence. Every mention, sign, and evidence was completely gone. I then started to question myself: Did Honey Oat ever exist? Was the delicious blend of honey and oats and bread just a glorious figment of my imaginiation? Did The Matrix now have me? So many questions with no answers.
Well, thats not completely true, someone did ask about honey oat on Subways official Facebook page. Here was what Subway had to say:
The date on that clearly says September of last year which means I was living on borrowed Honey Oat time. I guess the Subways around here decided to keep it around longer than everywhere else. That time has past. I dont know what Im going to do from now on. I tried Italian Herbs and Cheese bread but it did nothing for me. I guess I can just go back to regular Italian bread, but it wont be the same. Maybe nothing will ever be the same. I dont know who is to blame for this decision, but Ill just go ahead and blame Jared. He deserves it.
The bread failed to meet the criteria. because the sugar weight was around more than 10%. You believe it. the sweetest type of bread on the menu, the nine grain honey oat. has 10 grams of sugar, while the gluten free bread contains 14 grams of sugar.
I am in love with subways honey oat bread and I know I’m not the only one. Other breads just throw my sandwich off, and I can’t find anything like it. Recently they’ve just discontinued it and I’d like for Subway to bring back a classic favorite. It broke my heart hearing they discontinued the bread. I wouldn’t be standing here making myself look crazy or stupid if I didn’t love the honey oat bread that much. Y’all may lose customers this way because like I said if you don’t have that certain bread it just throws off the sandwich, hell I actually wanted to boycott subway until they brought it back. Please bring back your honey oat bread!
